The ingredients needed to make Candied Orange Peel:
- Prepare 300 ml water
- Get 300 g granulated sugar + 150g sugar for coating
- Make ready Peel from 3 large oranges including rind, cut into thin strips
Steps to make Candied Orange Peel:
- In boiling water cook the orange strips for 15 minutes, drain the water and repeat. (This is to remove some of the bitterness from the rind)
- In a saucepan (I used a 20cm round saucepan) add the sugar and 300ml of water then over medium heat stir continously until the sugar has dissolved.
- Add the peel and bring it to boiling point then reduce it to a simmer and cook for approximately 45 minutes until the orange rind is really soft. If there is any liquid left drain. Mine became gloopy and really sticky so I had to work quickly before it cooled down and hardened.
- Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and add 150g sugar spread out.
- Toss the orange rind evenly in the sugar, separating any rinds that are stuck together.
- Transfer the coated rind to a tray lined with foil.
- Cover the tray with a tea towel and let it dry for 1-2 days. Then place in an airtight container and enjoy.
